“The purpose of this organization shall be to assist the Women of the Episcopal Church to carry on Christ’s word of reconciliation in the world and to take their place as leaders in the life, governance, and worship of the church.”
(St. John's ECW Mission Statement)

The ECW of St. John’s carries on Christ’s work through support of parish and diocesan projects, United Thank Offering, Church Periodical Club, and donations to Episcopal schools and homes.  We also contribute to missions in the world and in the community of Florence.

Ladies of St. John’s welcome newcomers and new babies.  We send holiday remembrances to college students, visit shut-ins, and provide meals for the sick and bereaved. There are two active chapters of Episcopal Church Women.  The Mamie Poynor chapter meets the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Poynor Room, and the Marie Gregory chapter meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in members’ homes.  Membership in these chapters is open to all women of St. John’s.

Major fundraising events of the past year included a home tour, salad supper, back-to-school night, a luncheon and fashion show, and an oyster roast.  These events benefited the EYC mission trip to the Dominican Republic, Samuel Dargan's medical ministry in Rwanda, an overseas mission to assist young women in developing practical skills, and a school supply fund for children of abused women (through the Pee Dee Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse).

The women of St. John’s continue to support the parish mission statement, “To Know Christ and to Make Him Known,” by providing care, fellowship, and funds to our diocese, community, and church.
