Preparing for Sunday: Studying and Praying the Hymns
|
At their core, hymns are prayers. Reading them can be a meaningful part of one's daily prayer. Hymns also are excellent study tools. If you have a hymnal at home, consider studying the hymn texts along with the scripture lessons and collect for each Sunday. How do the hymns support the lessons, collect, liturgical season, and special rite being celebrated (e.g., baptism, confirmation)? How do the hymn texts reflect our beliefs and faith?
If you do not have a hymnal at home, most hymn texts can be found at www.nethymnal.org.
Would you like to have a home copy of the hymnal or Book of Common Prayer? Visit www.churchpublishing.org to place an order.
