Regional Choir Workshop
September 25

This annual workshop for church choir members will be offered on Saturday, September 25, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and concluding with a concert of workshop repertoire at 5:00.  All area church choir members are invited to attend.

This year's clinician is Dr. Sonja Sepulveda, Assistant Professor of Music and director of the choral program at Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC.  Dr. Sepulveda served as last year's clinician and is returning by popular demand.  Please use this link to learn about Dr. Sepulveda's experience and credentials.

The workshop will focus on choral skills development and is directed toward the needs of small church choirs.

The registration fee of $20 includes music, workshop materials, and lunch.  If you are interested in participating, please contact St. John's at (843) 662-5585 or twilliams@stjohnsflorence.org , or complete and mail the registration form available here by Friday, September 17.  Pre-registration is required.  Space is limited.

All members of the community are invited to the workshop concert.  It will be held in St. John's sanctuary at 5:00.  There is no charge; a reception will follow.  Ample parking is available in the parking lot behind the church.

Preparing for Sunday: Studying and Praying the Hymns

If you have a hymnal at home, consider studying the hymn texts along with the scripture lessons and collect for each Sunday.  How do the hymns support the lessons, collect, liturgical season, and special rite being celebrated (e.g., baptism, confirmation)?  How do the hymn texts reflect our beliefs and faith?

In addition to being excellent teaching tools, hymns - at their core - are prayers.  Reading them can be a meaningful part of one's daily prayer.

If you do not have a hymnal at home, most hymn texts can be found at www.nethymnal.org.

Would you like to have a home copy of the hymnal or Book of Common Prayer?  Visit www.churchpublishing.org to place an order.

Over the past year, newsletter articles have recalled the history of St. John's 140+ years of mission and ministry. This glimpse into the parish's past provided examples of the hard work and commitment given to the building-up of the Lord's work by St. John's congregants from the parish's earliest days. In an effort to ensure that we have adequate and sound facilities for present and future generations to continue that strong commitment to the work of the Lord, the Heritage Fund has been established. Following is the introductory letter from committee chairs Angelyn Bridges and Dan Ervin that was mailed to parishioners in March. Read More
