St. John's Institutes Heritage Fund
The vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church is developing a new opportunity for the Parish with the creation of the St. John’s Heritage Fund, a fund that will ensure repairs, renovations, and restoration for our beloved Parish for years to come. St. John’s has a history spanning nearly a century and a half. From its founding in 1865 to the present day, it has served not only its members, but its community as well, providing a wonderful means of outreach. If its walls could speak they would tell of untold numbers of parish meetings, covered dish suppers, summer ice cream/bingo socials, and ECW bazaars; of wedding receptions and anniversary celebrations; of meetings of Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Parents Without Partners, fund-raising events for the Center for the Arts, Hope for the Pee Dee, Lighthouse Ministries and many, many others. The Heritage Fund will make certain that this continues well into the future.
The immediate goal for the Heritage Fund is to retire the debt on the fellowship hall and other improvements made to the campus. The vestry has come up with a “formula” for this goal. They are asking that you prayerfully consider giving an amount equal to 10% of your annual pledge or gift to the Stewardship Fund (Operations Budget) to the Heritage Fund for two years. This, combined with other resources such as the completion of Phase II of Forward in Faith, will enable us to pay off our debt and the Heritage Fund will become a permanent item in the Assets side of our financial picture.
Dan agreed to chair this committee for the vestry because, as past Senior Warden, he is acutely aware of the vital part the fellowship hall and other improvements have made to our parish and the citizens of our community. Our buildings are used almost daily for spiritual nourishment, education, and social well-being. We believe strongly in the establishment of this fund for present needs and those that will come as St. John’s Parish continues to “know Christ and make Him known.”
